| Thank you to all our friends in Cabo | | 12 February, 04 Thursday. We have had our last breakfast at Jauncho’s Sand Bar and the beach of Cabo San Lucas for at least the next 2 years. We leave with a sad heart and will miss not only our many friends of Cabo but of the wonderful and exciting elements that Cabo San Lucas offers it’s self. It has been quite a ride having the opportunity that we have had in living in San Lucas from 1988-91, being in business general real estate (yes, even time-share sales), meeting the many Mexican families and becoming very close with them, and driving the Baja from one end to the other with all the many attractions that the Baja has to offer. We spent yesterday at the beach hoping to get the final rays that the sun would offer for the last couple of days. There were many friends that we met on the beach from all over the west coast and we all gathered together for one more time. At the close of the day we all decided to gather at our condo for a barbeque and finish off the case of Pacifico and the Tequila . It was a real good time.
As we sat down at the beach table, kicking our tennis shoes off and putting our feet into the warm sand we were joined by Leslee & Sid, Doris & Juancho, Bonnie & Doug, and Ernie and Sheila. A wonderful group to gather for our last breakfast and to say good-bye too. THANK YOU ALL for being there and wishing us well on our next adventure.
We look forward to being with you again soon.

| Good-bye GOLDIE..... | | Monday, 9 Feb 04. Time has arrived and we must say good bye…. To Goldie that is !!!!
We have really enjoyed the time with Goldie and how reliable and trustworthy she has been. There were times when we had a little doubt of her reliability, there were times when we wondered just how much gas she would really take or how much gas we would have to take from her, and there were times when we, were looked at as if something really exciting might happen right there and now, like she might have a large explosion, a final cough, and a huge cloud of smoke. Well, that said, we presented her with a gift of a Yellow Chicken Bobble Head which we mounted to the dashboard with duct tape. Now you must understand, all of this does a good job of enhancing her interior….well, maybe, enhances might be a little strong (you’ve got to use your imagination a little on this) and we named it Goldie in her honor. She really liked the gift and I’m sure will always remember us for it. We decided to drive together into town for lunch at Casa Dorado and then onto Eddie Feinstein’s Custom Design Jewelry (please call 044-624-1432559) to take Goldie back to Eddie (all washed and looking fine). Just a side note, the lunch was wonderful and we highly recommend this restaurant to all who might find themselves in Cabo San Lucas and looking for a very good restaurant that is NOT going to cost them an arm and a leg. It was a really difficult day….well, that didn’t last long !!! After riding the bus back to the condo we found that Ernie and Sheila had finally arrived. We invited them up for a “Welcome Back” Pina Colada. By the time they had made it up to our place, we had Leroy & Claudia Ostrem, their friends (and ours) Scott & Ronda, Leslee & Sid, and Charolette (our next door neighbor) all here to partake in the smooth tastes of our Pina Colada’s and the “fine hors d’oeuvres”. WE ALL HAD A GOOD TIME !!!!

| Sempre ubis, sub ubis! (Always wear underwear) | | | Here it is, already day four of our seven day vacation. I have to say the old saying “Time flies when you are having fun.”, is exactly what Sid and I are experiencing. When Dad asked if I would write today’s entry, I jumped at the chance! Today is Friday, February 06, 2004, a holiday in Mexico. It celebrates one of their Constitution Days. We slept in (8:30am) on account of the holiday, and possible over consumption from last night. We didn’t waste much more daylight and after enjoying one of Sid’s famous breakfasts of chorizo and eggs on tortillas (Mexican train wreck), we were off to visit the old lighthouse. Sid and I had ATV’d up to the lighthouse, along with mom and dad when we were here for our honeymoon almost fifteen years ago but now it is closed to all traffic except pedestrian. I don’t know whose idea it was, but I poured at least a cup of sand out of each shoe and coughed up a lung before the experience was over. We all concurred that we deserved a cerveza and headed in search of a super mini (convenience store). After being teased by beer signs in the distance (a mirage, I think), we finally found one that was open. Everyone else bought pop, so I decided I better just follow suit. We experienced quite a bit of the outskirts of Cabo on the adventure, and it really makes you thank God for all he has blessed us with. When we got back to the condo, mom and I decided to head to town for a little souvenir shopping. Dad graciously offered us a ride in Goldie, and we went in and out of the same store at least 30 times. They all have the same best junk, and they all say they have “best price for you today”. I asked one of the store owners what the price was tomorrow, and they kindly asked us to leave! We were told to be back by 3:30, and at 2:55 we were on a bus headed for home! Juancho and Doris invited us all out for a sunset cruise on their new boat. Bonnie and Doug, Mom and Dad, and Sid and I were treated like royalty and witnessed many things we had never seen or heard before. The whales were spouting and the skates were belly flopping, the sun went down, and a full moon arose from the water. We were given a Latin lesson by Juancho, and drank a little wine and enjoyed some wonderful snacks. While driving home, we happened upon a festival of Spanish dancers and stopped and watched as they twirled around the plaza. It was an awesome day, and aside from the lung thing, a day that I will treasure for years to come. | |

| Water Please !!!! | | | 4,5 Feb.04, Wed/Thursday “No Alcohol, just WATER TODAY PLEASE !!!! Now that is a statement!! I didn’t think I would ever hear that statement coming on the first morning of the 2nd day but, there it was…. We were all up and looking for the first cup of coffee before 8am and that alone was a good sign. I called down to the BUNGALOWS BED & BREAKFAST to see if we can get in for breakfast and they are expecting us at 9:30. We are looking forward to the breakfast burritos . Well, we all had a good time in Cabo yesterday. After breakfast of bacon and eggs …. Sid has just told me that I’ve got to talk about the ”bread”. Well, yes we had bread too. It is home made and quite wonderful. I even have to slice it prior to toasting. Yes Sid, it is some wonderful bread !!! Now, back to the journal, we went out to catch a bus to JUANCHO’S SAND BAR at the beach. While waiting, one of the neighbors here at Brisas came by and offered us a ride so we decided to save $1.20 and accept it. That did buy us another cerveza you know. This day turned into quite a BEACH PARTY…Les and Sid made sure that all those that came to the SAND BAR were made to feel at home. I’m sure they will soon be offered a job by one of the Time Share companies or who knows possibly even the SAND BAR (maybe I could get a free cervasa once in awhile). We all got a lot of sun, but Sid won the prize. He went to bed with a very cold wrap around his head. This morning he is applying a lot of 45 lotion before the sun can even find him. He’ll make it, he’s tough…. Coming back from the beach we walked up and caught one of the small buses back to the condo. This is the first time that we’ve ridden on one of the buses with hardly anyone on it. This gave Leslee and Sid a chance to practice their Spanish. They felt right at home as they tried to get everyone involved. It just wasn’t the same cooperation that they got back at the beach, but we all had fun anyway. | |

| $15.00 You'vw Got To Be Kidding !!!! | | 3 Feb. 04, Tuesday. Don’t look so sad Joelle, we all have to go back home some day…
She has had a sad face and lacking the energy she once had when she arrived last week. She just said it was “The Cabo Blues”. Ya, that’s what I thought too (she has to leave for the airport in 15 minutes). It has been a fun time and we have had our days filled with lots of beach time, cervasa time, just plain bumming around time. We are glad she could make it down. We were invited to another dinner party last night. Juancho and Doris invited Bonnie, Doug, Roger, Joelle, Louise and me to join them at their wonderful home for a great meal of Lasagna. What a great night to spend with a wonderful family that we have come to know and love here in Cabo San Lucas. I must say that they have a lot of Love that is so obvious to their family and friends….it’s never hidden. Arriving at the airport and checking in Joelle found that she would depart much later than she thought so we wondered over to a bar to have a beer while waiting for Leslee and Sid to arrive. I must say it was refreshing and it gave us a little more time with Joelle. Leslee and Sid appeared walking down the hall so I went to pay for the beer….now understand, we had one beer apiece and we just happen to be at the airport in CABO SAN JOSE. Well the bill was one of the HUGHE SURPRISES of this trip….$5.00 EACH (I pay 40 cents at the store) PLUS TAX….$15.00 for 3 standard sized beers….I was PSST…. Oh well. Bye Joelle….Hello Leslee and Sid. Welcome to Cabo, come on, lets go for a ride in ‘Goldie”.

| Helloooo Goldie | | | 2 Feb. 04, Monday. Well a few days have gone by and I haven’t spent anytime on the journal. I really appreciate all the birthday wishes and look forward to next year already…not knowing exactly where it may be. Sunday we (Louise, Joelle, and myself headed off to town for breakfast and check in with Eddie. Eddie had offered his Chev Suburban for us to use for the rest of our stay…..Isn’t that the GREATEST!!!! Thanks Ed ! Well “GOLDIE” as it is called was a wonderful addition to our experiences here in Cabo. “Goldie” truly is a “Cabo Car”. If you’ve spent any time here in Cabo you know what I mean. They are similar to the Cabo dogs as they don’t look so great, don’t run to smoothly, have wonderful personality BUT, are just wonderful to have for transportation when you need them (the cars, not the dog’s). On Sunday evening, Bonnie & Doug asked us to join 3 other couples and their families for a fish barbeque at their “casa”. First off, what a great meal…Doug, you out did yourself at the barbeque and Bonnie, you have continued to put a wonderful meal together for all of us to remember. Now I must mention the brownies as well, many thanks for these wonderful morsels with the candles go to Gerri (from Boise and a little while back from Post Falls). Next I must mention our memorable trip to San Jose (where the Rohrers casa is located) with “Goldie”. We all prayed a few times for our and others safety as we zoomed down highway at 35 mph (I wouldn’t really want to travel any faster with her) and the other vehicles ZOOMED past us (sometimes I would see them coming and other times WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT !!!). | |

| Titty's Boutique !!!!??? | | We are soooo... relaxed here. Think of you every day and miss you all. Louise, how was opening night of the play? Wish we could of been there and can't wait to see it on the 14th. Yesterday we got up late. Grampa made French toast. It was very good, fried in bacon fat, olive oil and butter. Yum! Yes that ole Atkins thing and got away from us. We will need to get real serious when we get back. We caught the bus into town and went to Eddies shop and picked up GOLDIE. A 1980s something Chevy Suburban. We will send pictures, what an adventure. We took her up over Pedregal and to the Pacific beach. Joelle and I gathered some shells. It was very quiet, just the surf and wind. We were trying to cut down on the sun a little. Then we went for lunch on the Marina. A place called the Amazon. They had two bright green small parrots, who enjoyed chips and salsa with us. Dad will send a picture. We had to get some olives for Bonnies get together today, so we stopped at the grocery store CCCs. They have the best olives, fresh picked and cured. Being Saturday they were really busy. Came home with our goodies and read and laid around until dinner time. We decided to walk to Sorianas for dinner, and try the Mexican deli at the back of the store. But alas our espanol was not good enough for us to understand how it works, so it was Mickey Ds for us. Then we checked out Titty's Boutique. Cute store for girls and women. Nothing inexpensive there! Walked back to the condo and just veged. This morning the weather is cool and windy, clouds and sun.

| La Picazon Margaritas | | Every day is more beautiful than the last. We really got a lot of sun today. Spent most of the day at the beach. Two cruise ships were in. The water was a deep tropical blue and alive with para sailors, wave runners, glass bottom boats and water taxis. We just sat back and enjoyed the scene. The sail boat that had been on the beach is now submerged in the bay, just the mast protruding above the water. Have not met the woman that this boat belongs to. Evidently she thought the hole in the bottom had been fixed and they moved the boat into the water it made it about a hundred yards and sank with all her belongings aboard. She has insurance but there is a lot of red tape.
She is still camping in a tent on the beach. Also someone on the beach told us her boyfriend died of carbon monoxide poisoning in San Diego. Evidently when she tried to cast his ashes in the bay she was arrested for polluting and had to pay a big fine. A very interesting story, I'd like to talk to her and find out if any of it is true.
We had lunch up the beach at Tabascos next to Club Cascades, where Joel and I Worked years ago. We got some good exercise walking up and down the beach a couple of times. Met some interesting people, locals and tourists. On the way home from the beach we stopped off at La Picazon. Imelda and Alex the owners were both there. What really nice people. We had one of Imelda famous margaritas. They are like Mt Rainier piled high in margarita glasses. Topped with slices of lime. She serves them with shots of very smooth tequila. Wow!! You only need one but they so good....
We are really getting this bus thing down, pretty soon we won't have to walk at all, just get the right bus. We are continuing our early to bed late to rise routine. And are reading a lot, what a great time

| Hold Onnnnn...!!! | | | 29 January 04, Thursday. If I must say so myself (which I didn’t have to because everyone else complimented me on it) my breakfast was great. Aaa heck, it was nothing…. I just threw a couple of eggs in the frying pan and wa-la (well they wanted the yokes broken anyway). We donned our walking clothes and headed for town via bus this time. This bus ride is not only cheap but you get quite “close” with the people on it. We rode the smaller bus this time which is more like a large van with about 25 people riding, stopping (every time a finger goes into the air), and riding another few yards. We were on a hunt for shoes but ended up with a swimming suit for Louise. A good trade off with the exception of the pocket book (I’d take shoes anytime). We took in the “New Mall” again as it has been 3 years since Joelle had seen it and it has really changed since then. I was looking for a “Latte” (can you imagine that?) and there is a wonderful Mexican Coffee Shoppe that I’ve been looking forward to trying. I wasn’t disappointed. Off across town we wanted to stop by Eddie Feinstein’s Jewelry and let him know that his software was on it’s way. He has offered his “Baja Buggy” for the rest of our stay so I think we will pick it up Saturday just to have around in case we have had enough of the walking (thinking of Joelle, isn’t that nice?). We left Eddie and went looking for a Taco Stand that we had noticed earlier. We had a great lunch and look forward to seeing him again in the near future…very near future!! Caught a “Kamikaze” bus on the way back…wow !!! I was got off at the grocery store and Louise and Joelle were to go on to the condo but, it didn’t work out quite like that…. I got off OK and went off to the store but, when Louise and Joelle tried to stay on the bus and travel another 300 yards (which the driver didn’t know yet) he wouldn’t move until they disembarked. They tried to tell him that they wanted to travel just a little further but NO…you have to get off, I don’t stop up there !!!! So, off they went… oh well, it was to be a walking vacation anyway. Besides, they just wanted to get back so that they could get one of my MARGARITAS anyway….or was it three. | |

| The Friendly Whale | | | I was thinking about all the postings that we have done while here in Cabo San Lucas and most have been centered around our family and us. Well, there is a lot more to share with you. With the presence of whales clearly seen from the shores all around Los Cabos, it adds additional excitement to the sea from late December through March every year. The tell-tale spray of water shooting from a surfacing whale blowhole, excites the imagination of what is below the water. “Whales, the mammals of the sea, (called cetaceans) are remarkably related to land animals like cattle, antelopes, pigs and hippopotamuses. They have common ancestors from millions of years ago, that are unlike present day groups.” Last February we had the opportunity to drive from Seattle to our destination of Cabo San Lucas. After crossing the border from California to Mexico, we decided to stop off in the little town of Guerrero Negro and camped the night in the back of our van. We awoke early the next morning and left with a small group of people out into the bay to be with the whales. The female Gray Whales that are there were going to either give birth (calf), or had already given birth, and then there are the whales, male and female, that were a year old. All others stay out in the deeper waters for mating. In the waters of this cove, the whales are more active and they seemed to be all around us, so our guide shut the motor off. We just sat there watching all these beautiful mammals of the deep, surfacing, blowing, and spy-hopping (that’s were they just rise straight up until their eye comes out of the water) . It’s interesting because they just seem to look around, check us out, and then slide back into the water and disappear once more. Sometimes they would break the surface and jump high out of the water and flip over onto their back and splash this huge wave. But THE BEST is when you get the chance to MEET a FRIENDLY WHALE !!!! A friendly whale is a whale that finds YOU interesting as well, and will slowly come over to the boat to scratch it’s self on the bottom of your boat (the Gray Whale has patches of barnacles or lice that itch a lot). After awhile you hope they will just come up to the boat so you can have the PREVILAGE of touching and stroking a 35-50 foot Gray Whale….. These are the same whales that summer in the Artic seas and then travel here to the Baja. This can be up to 12,000 miles round trip and takes about 2 ½ months each way. These are the same whales that are now in the waters around Los Cabos (Lands End) and are what so many of us tourists are keeping our eyes to the sea in the hopes of getting a glimpse. We know that all we will probably see is just the water “spout” or possibly a huge tail pointing skyward….it’s all worth it. | |

| Joelle's HERE !!!! | | 26/27 January ’04, Mon & Tuesday. The last full day for Mary and Lois before heading back to Seattle. They wanted to take in Todo Santos for the day so we all jumped in the car after breakfast and headed North. Todo Santos is just getting ready for their Art Festival at the end of this month. It was all very enjoyable and somehow in all the walking of the streets, Lois and Mary found some “great buys” to take home with them.
After making it back prior to dinner it was decided that we would all get ready and head over to Romeo and Juliet’s for an Italian dinner. Lois told us “right up front, THIS IS MY TREAT” and who was I to say differently? Thank you Lois…..
Well the last day has arrived so we were off to the beach for breakfast and the last of the “sunbathing” prior to getting back to Seattle (WHO ORDERED THE BREAKFAST MARGARITAS LOIS?). A funny thing happened on the way to the airport….. or was it that we found out about it just as we arrived AT the airport? Let me say this about that….”Mary, I do forgive you, and not a word will ever be spoken on this again !!!).
Mom (Lois) and Mary are off and JOELLE HAS ARRIVED !!!! A 40 minute drive back to the condo, a 2 minute change of clothes and we are off to the Sand Bar to get the last rays of the sun on our bods (boy is Joelle ever white…) and have that first cerveza, cheeps and salsa. HMMMMM GOOD !!

| Thar They Blow !!!! | | | Sunday, 25 Jan ’04, The sun is out bright with a light wind that is keeping it just a little cooler than we would like. At 9:30am, we (4of us) jumped in the car and off we went to breakfast at The Bungalow’s Bed & Breakfast. Like I mentioned before in my journal, it is a special meal that Estella puts together (banana nut mango pancake) and this one was no exception . After breakfast, we headed off to the Pedregal beach. Keeping our eyes out to sea, we were lucky enough to see and be entertained by the gray whales with their blowing and breaching as they made their way on to Alaska. It had been along time for Lois to take in the Pacific side of Cabo so, we decided that would be a good side trip before going to Juancho’s Sand Bar & Beach Club for the day. When we arrived at The Sand Bar we picked out our beach chairs, found the sun, ordered lunch, and mucho margaritas, and settled back for a long visit with Doris, Juancho, (their dos ninos) Louisa and Max. Of course Lois (Great Grandma) and Mary (Louise’s sister) had their chance to barter with the beach vendors in the purchases that they had to have before going home. Each day has to come to it’s end and this is no exception as we headed back to our condo. Now feeling that we needed just that little bit more we decided to stop at Mariscos and pick up (para llevar) cerviche de pescado to take home with us…..boy is that good !!! | |

| A Surprise Party !! (and we weren't there) | | Saturday, 24 January 04. From what I understand there was a great Surprise Birthday Party back in Seattle. Happy Birthday again Mikleane and Happy Birthday to Ric as well!!!!
Waking up this morning we found that we weren’t washed away overnight and the sun was shining bright and warm. I took advantage of the morning sun and spent some time lounging around the pool looking for a little color to my body. We have additional company coming this afternoon….Louise’s sister Mary will be here until Wednesday and then she will fly back with Lois. Tomorrow we will all go over to The Bungalows Bed & Breakfast and enjoy one of the famous gourmet meals that Estella serves. The BEST !!!
Mary arrived on time and had to rush and push her way through all the timeshare, cab hustlers, and those of us just standing around looking for a familiar face in the masses.
We had a barbecue of chicken for dinner and I made from scratch my version of margaritas. Not Bad if I must say so myself. Tomorrows weather looks great so I’m expecting beach time with a Pacifico.

| Let's See Cabo San Jose | | Thur. 22 January 04. We awoke to a slightly overcast morning so we decided to go up the coast line to Cabo San Jose after breakfast. It is amazing, we made the trip to San Jose in about 30 minutes or less and the first thing that we HAD to do was stop for a Latte (or a cup of coffee) and something sweet to go along with it……what is this, it must be the fresh clear air that makes you do something like that. During coffee, we made plans (adjustable) that would take us to the beautiful Cacti Mundo-Los Cabos Botanical Gardens. They had species of cacti that have never been seen in collections that have been open to the public. What a real treat that was….absolutely beautiful. Next on the list was a short trip to El Estero Historico de San Jose (the historic San Jose Estuary). Unfortunately, this wonderful estuary was drained into the Sea of Cortez during the last summers hurricane. Now that the sea has started to put the sand back into position to block off the fresh water from going out to sea, the estuary is slowly filling again. There was still a lot of bird life there and we had a good time watching them fish and dig into the sand looking for that little micro of what ever it is they feed on. Well, there must have been a wonderful aroma coming down wind because the next thing I knew we were heading into San Jose cento to do some window shopping and LUNCH ANY ONE? What will tomorrow bring?
Well tomorrow arrived and so did the RAIN !!!
About 2-3" over night so we packed up and went to the movie !!! | |

| Hi Mom Welcome to Cabo | | | Wednesday and it is the 21st of January. We were up early and made the place spotless as we had company coming for a visit…..Louise’s mother Lois was arriving early afternoon from Seattle so we went to the airport to pick her up. I dropped Louise off at the door as I went off to find a parking space. In joining her in the lobby and looking until there was no one left to come out Louise looked over to me and didn’t look too good. Have we lost her here in a Mexican airport (and us with no telephone or no address) or did she miss her flight? After a little while I decided to check outside and there she was in her powder blue jacket and pant outfit (looking great!) off on the apron with her hand clutching her bags and looking up the street…”I was just going to wait until you got here cause I thought you might be running a little late” (what, ME?????). Well I want the rest of the family to know that she made it just fine and is in good hands (we’ve already had our first Margarita and chicharronis). | |

| Todo Santos BCS | | 20 January 04, and we have a slight overcast morning so we decided to jump aboard a bus bound for Todo Santos after a light breakfast here at home (already I’m calling this condo “home”, can you believe it?). We really are feeling comfortable and getting into the groove of doing what feels good at that moment. You might feel that we would just run down to the bus station, buy a ticket, wait for the bus and you would be on your way….not quite! The lady behind the counter took us outside and very politely told us that the bus we wanted was available just across the 4 lane highway and it would be by momentarily. Sooo, we carefully made ourselves walk across this street with many cars, trucks, taxi’s, and buses finding us to be fair game as they were barreling down on us all at once. After finding ourselves safely there we thought we might confirm what that kindly sole told us about this being the right spot for the bus we wanted. There was 2 ladies that said no it wasn’t the right spot so , we asked 2 men, and they confirmed that it wasn’t right and they decided to take us to a different bus station about 2 blocks and 2 additional 4 lanes of traffic that we had to find our way through to get to it. Well, an hour later we were on our way and had a wonderful time walking the streets, businesses, coffee shop, “The” Hotel California, and having some wonderful seafood tacos.
Todo Santos over the years has turned into a beautiful little town with lots of wonderful shops, restaurants and great art galleries. It has the feel of an Old Colonial town and has become quite an agricultural cultural center with many organic farms producing fruit, vegetables, and herbs. Most of these will find their way to the finest markets in the US. We spent about 3-4 hours there and then were back to finding a bus back home. Not much trouble finding the bus but, when we stepped on we immediately found that ALL the seats were taken and they were already standing in the isles for the hour plus trip home….Oh well…it still was a great time.

| Amigos del Cabo San Lucas | | Sunday & Monday, 18 & 19 January 2004. Met with Doug and Bonnie and went to breakfast at Momma’s in Cabo. Very good food but, the prices were SOOOO HIGH that it kind of took the specialness out of the morning. Live and learn…. We didn’t let any grass grow with our disappointment because we headed out for a drive to “El Faro Viejo” (the Old Light House). We have been there a number of times and it is still something special to see and do. Very special. Another reason for going to the light house was to see if the wind was blowing enough to fly kites or Doug’s new plane (not yet). One of the additional attractions from that location was we could view were they were filming Brad Pitts new movie “Troy”. We had to hurry back to meet with a family that we have known and enjoyed enormously for along time. Nacho and Rocio and their daughters were coming by and we were going out to have a long awaited lunch together. We had a lot of catching up to do. Maruja (10) is just a wonderful and most beautiful young lady, Maryanne (2) is a very special and pretty young niña, and their 3 son’s are all off to far reaching places…Chino (16) is in Japan studying, Lynn (21) is New York working with jumping horses with hopes of making the Olympics in the future, and Juanro (26) is Mexico City singing and playing music (a true love). After our visit and a very enjoyable lunch we went back to the condo and caught up on some work with our site and finished a book as well.
Monday we went to the Internet Café after breakfast and then off to the beach for a “Day In The Sun”. No burns but we did get enough sun to show a little color. GREAAT!!

| What NO WATER !!!! | |
Saturday, January 17, 2004. You grab a bucket, go down the 3 flights of stairs, fill the bucket with water from the swimming pool, GO UP 3 flights of stairs 3 TIMES and ALL she says is “THANK YOU !!!” . Well that was this morning and all that has passed. After breakfast of coffee and a “food bar” we splashed on some sun screen and donned the back pack and headed out to the “peoples market” just to see what they had to offer this morning. Following the earlier lead (no water, no shower) and continuing the uncertainties of the day, we found that we were 2 hours too early for the market….darn ! Well we had heard about some trouble that occurred on the day of the first heavy rain storm. A couple of sail boats and a large pontoon raft had washed up on the shore so we decided to walk to the beach and check this out. Well let me tell you, I forgot about all my problems (no water, no shower) when we saw that boat laying on its side with a hole in it’s bottom (one had made it back to water). Not good !! The person who owns this craft is camped right next to it in a small tent and all “her” belongings strung out beside it drying out. Not fun !! The fortunate part of this is that she wasn’t physically hurt and her dog (a Pug) is doing just fine as well. On the other side of today, we met a couple (while we were having lunch) that had just arrived by the ‘QE 2”. They were from Barcelona, Spain and had traveled across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and had just stepped off the ship to talk with us. It has and will continue to be quite a trip for them as they head up the coast tonight to San Diego and Los Angeles. I understand that some of the passengers will go all the way to Alaska. Boy you have to love the food a lot to stay on board that long. Well, back to “trekking” the beach, stopping for a cervasa (2, it was Happy Hour), seeing our buddy Eddie and then making it all the way home to find
“WATER’ !!!!

| Happy Birthday Mikleane | | | Friday 16 January ’04 started out with a walk into town to our favorite Bed & Breakfast. THE BUNGALOWS BED & BREAKFAST in Cabo San Lucas. Our welcoming host is Estella and her son Erik. It is always a great pleasure to stay with them and to enjoy their INCREDIBLE breakfasts. We have never be disappointed. Leaving breakfast we hiked up the hand-laid stone roads into the Pedregal and then over to the other side and view down into the vast Pacific Ocean. This is always an awe-inspiring sight. Going around the next corner always gives you a new and exciting view that few really get to see on their visits to Los Cabos. As we reached the other side of the Pedregal hill we were off the next stop of the day looking for a little beach time, cerveza, and another wonderful meal (boy do we eat GOOOOD). We finally made it to the SANDBAR BEACH CLUB and were promptly met by Doris (Doris and Juancho are the owners) and we were shown to our beach front table in the sand for our Fajitas y Camarones. One of the highlights of any trip to the beach is just getting your feet into the sand and letting all of the pressure of the day flow out into those small grains of granite. Even the beach vendors (and I love them all) add to the adventure that we all find in going to the beach in Mexico. | |

| An Easy As You Go Day | | Thursday Jan 15th saw us off to the Internet Café just after breakfast and then back to being a laid back kind of day. We both have good books underway that we are well into so we spent hours digesting all they have to offer. Now that doesn’t mean we didn’t put in a little pool and walking time, seeing as the weather has co-operated with a nice sunny 78-80 degrees. As far as our walk, we left the condo and walked out dirt roads and found ourselves deep in the barrio of Cabo San Lucas. It was a very interesting walk, a lot of wonderful people that happen to have a lot of dogs that were all sleeping. You see, they sleep during the day so that they can all BARK AT NIGHT….
We Love it and wouldn’t change a thing! One thing that we used to really enjoy early each morning, was the rooster crowing….we just don’t hear that at all now for some reason. Could be they are all for sale in the meat market down the street (just kidding).
I was just told to light the barbecue for my famous barbecued chicken breast along with quesadillas y salsa.

| RAIN ? in CABO ? | | Let it rain, let it rain….
Well let me tell you, when it decides to rain in Cabo it REALLY RAINS !!!
We were woke from a deep sleep early this morning by the rain coming down and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing. Obviously we missed out having breakfast on the beach. I hope there is still a beach to go to after this one. We drove into town with Doug & Bonnie to have lunch and the water was already flooding into some of the stores. The streets were almost impassable with the water coming down from the hills around town. If you haven’t been in a heavy rain storm in a desert area before you couldn’t have any idea of what it’s like. We decided to make it back to our third floor condo and wait it out by reading and eating our way through the day.
Wednesday…It was still raining this morning when we got up but showed signs of stopping soon. We decided to do some domestic chores today like washing clothes and washing windows. The clothes got finished but I lagged behind on the windows long enough that it stopped raining. We decided to “catch the bus” to Centro and take in a movie. Great choice !! On the way back we found a internet café attached to Dunkin Doughnuts within ¼ mile from the condo….what a break!! Can’t wait for tomorrow morning to give them BOTH a try.

| Internet Cafe's & COSTCO | | | Monday 12 Jan. 04….. When we were in Seattle it was eeaaasssy to sleep in past 8am but here….it’s practically up before the sun. This morning we were off to the internet café after breakfast here at the condo. Speaking of breakfast, I purchased a Stainless Steel French press coffee maker……LOVE IT !!! We’ll look forward to taking it with us to Europe for sure. We put the lap top into the backpack and headed off the internet café we had scoped out last Saturday. Well, it was out of business so we had to hit the bricks (concrete and dirt) roads to find another. After some searching (about 20 minutes) we were in and sending/receiving emails and uploading to the web site. Next stop, off to see Joanie at her real estate office. She is Ms. World Traveler and told us to meet her and some friends in Italy this September. Would be fun Joanie…. Then over to see Eddie again as we want to get a ring for Louise (Eddie ALWAYS has the Best). We were offered his car to go to COSTCO…as always we spent too much money. After dropping off our purchases and a long conversation with Eddie, fixing all the wrongs of the world and learning about a new game (what is the definition of….pismire?) we headed out the door for our trek back to the condo and straight to the barbecue. It was steak, quesada’s, salad and a Pacifico. It was great !!! Doug and Bonnie are coming by in the morning and we are heading to the SANDBAR (on the beach) for breakfast with Juancho and Doris. Great couple and a great place to have fun when you get to Cabo San Lucas. | |

| Sunday and a BBQ !!! | | | Sunrise in Cabo San Lucas, ain’t it great!!! After showering and getting dressed I made bacon, eggs, & toast while Louise cut up the most incredible Papaya. Donning the backpack off we go to the CCC again for additional groceries and a Bar-b-que. We are looking forward to putting it to use while we’re here although I could eat at the taco stands day and night. Doug & Bonnie invited us to join them at a barbecue this afternoon at a home of one of their friends in Cabo San Jose, Baja California Sur. Alex and Susie invited us in as if we had known them all their lives to have a wonderful afternoon eating, drinking, relaxing and enjoying their family and many friends. They were wonderful hosts and we thank them very much for the wonderful hospitality. | |

| Cabo at last !!! | | | This all started on Wednesday the 7th… The weather forecast was for snow, lot’s of snow and it ALL arrived on time !! We were heading out to the airport at the early hour of 6 am ( early for us anyway) and it had really dumped a lot of snow and the streets were covered with lots of ice. Upon arriving at the airport with one million and two people we found ourselves in the longest line imaginable. After hours in this line we were all told there would be “NO FLIGHTS….GO HOME !!!”. We did. Two days later we have left all that cold and snow behind and are now basking in the sun of Cabo San Lucas. Cabo is like a second home to us after having the experience of living here for just over 3 years back in ’88. We have been here many times since and still when we arrive back it is startling all the changes this “small fishing community” is going through. I constantly hear from the X-pat’s and those visiting for the first time that “it is too bad that this small fishing village is now just another American town with all the McD’s and all”. Well, maybe the “locals” would like to have some of the experiences here in their town that we find available in ours. It’s good to be back !!! | |
