Seeing as how we had driven over Stevens Pass in crossing the Cascade Mountains in the other trips to the east side, we decided to take the lesser traveled Highway 2. The pass is higher, and the roads are mostly 2 lanes and slower (more important if your driving a faster vehicle), but it is a much prettier route across. Stevens still had a fair amount of snow at the summit compared to Snoqualmie not having any at all except real high in the tops of the highest peaks. The slower winding roadway and the Wenatchee River beside us after crossing over the pass is just what we were looking for…it is beautiful to say the least. We tried to get in touch with my sister and brother in law in Wenatchee, but unfortunately for us, they were still out at the coast. Our next stop was in Manson to see Louise’s brother in law and to see the finished new home that he and Sue had just built for themselves. Manson is right on the shore of Lake Chelan, and the home that Sue and Dean built is high on a hill looking down the full length of the lake….WOW what a house and what a view !!! Lou and I were going to stay the night in Chelan or Manson, but hadn’t made any final preparations for which campground yet until Dean suggested that we join him and Ann-Mary (his daughters mother in law) and all go to the casino for dinner and “they will let you camp there for nothing”. Not only did they let us camp for nothing, but it was “Free Dinner for Seniors Night” as well….we just couldn’t say no. There were about 10 RV’s there, so it wasn’t too much different than staying at any other campground except for not having any hook-ups. On top of all the freebies that we had already received, they gave us some incentives to gamble as well. You know, the “buy $5 dollars of chips and we will give you $3 more FREE”. Well, we parlayed that into a plus $25 before breaking even at the end of the night. The next morning, we had a coupon for a dollar off a Latte, so we shuttled in and bought our special latte. While I was waiting for them to be made, Louise snuck off and found a penny machine to put some coins in…in about 10 minutes or less, she had made $15. Well last night, Dean had told and shown her a Dollar machine that he had ALWAYS had a lot of luck with hitting the BIG ONE. Well with 3 big pulls and $15, she had LOST everything… About that time, Dean walked in to take us to breakfast, sat down at the SAME machine, put in a couple of dollars and WON $30. What can you say…It’s HIS Machine !!!
